Associated Press reports:

Two Rhode Island lawmakers are pushing legislation to stop businesses from asking for the last four digits of customers’ Social Security numbers.

The state already prohibits businesses from recording a person’s entire Social Security number on a personal check. But many routinely ask to record part of the number.
