RTÉ reports:

A private investigator has appeared in court on charges of breaching data protection laws, including obtaining and disclosing information from garda records.

Michael Gaynor trading as MJG Investigations 38 Beatty Grove, Celbridge faces 72 charges under the Data Protection Acts.

It is understood to be the first prosecution of its kind taken by the Data Protection Commissioner.
