 December 2, 2011  Breaches, Laws

I’ve covered this type of situation before, but it’s always useful to remind people that risk is all around us.  From KUSA in Florida:

Most people don’t like coming back to their car to find a parking ticket, but what one local woman found written on a ticket she received came as even more of a shock.

Adams County resident Peggy Shaffer’s Social Security number was written on the ticket, in full view of anyone who happened to walk by and look at her car.

Shaffer admits she might have been breaking the law when she received the ticket.

“We’ve been parking facing the wrong way, which we agree is wrong,” she said.

She says it was only a matter of time before deputies wrote her a ticket, but not one that included all her vital information.

“My name, my address, my height, my weight my age, my birthday, driver’s license number, and Social Security number,” she said.

In this case, the inclusion of the SSN was reportedly a mistake, but even if it were intentional, it would not be illegal under the federal Drivers Privacy Protection Act.
