The 110th Congress and Privacy: Week 7 (Feb. 12 – Feb. 16)

Although the text of many of these bills may not yet be available in Thomas, these bills have all been entered in this site’s Proposed Legislation files for future tracking.

1. A bill to amend title 5, United States Code, to clarify which disclosures of information are protected from prohibited personnel practices; to require a statement in nondisclosure policies, forms, and agreements to the effect that such policies, forms, and agreements are consistent with certain disclosure protections, and for other purposes H.R. 985

2. A bill to extend the deadline by which State identification documents shall comply with certain minimum standards and for other purposes. S. 563

3. A bill to improve public awareness in the United States regarding safe use of the Internet through the establishment of an Office of Internet Safety and Public Awareness within the Federal Trade Commission. H.R. 1008

4. A bill to require automobile dealers to disclose to consumers the presence of event data recorders, or “black boxes”, on new automobiles, and to require manufacturers to provide the consumer with the option to enable and disable such devices on future automobiles H.R. 1015

5. A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relating to equality of rights and reproductive rights. H. J. Res. 31 Jackson of Illinois

6. To develop the next generation of parental control technology. S. 602

7. To amend title 18, United States Code, to prohibit taking minors across State lines in circumvention of laws requiring the involvement of parents in abortion decisions. H.R.1063

8. To provide that human life shall be deemed to exist from conception. H.R.1094

9. To prohibit any Federal official from expending any Federal funds for any population control or population planning program or any family planning activity. H.R.1095

10. To restore the second amendment rights of all Americans. H.R.1096

11. To repeal title II of the REAL ID Act of 2005, to reinstitute section 7212 of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, which provides States additional regulatory flexibility and funding authorization to more rapidly produce tamper- and counterfeit-resistant driver’s licenses and to protect privacy and civil liberties by providing interested stakeholders on a negotiated rulemaking with guidance to achieve improved 21st century licenses to improve national security. H.R.1117.

12. To amend the Communications Act of 1934 to require recipients of universal service support for schools and libraries to protect minors from commercial social networking websites and chat rooms. H.R.1120.
