Life’s little lessons, Tuesday edition (updated)

Kid #2 is mortified. Her computer apparently picked up an infection that her badly outdated software did not catch and as a result, everyone in her address book received an email from her with an ad for Viagra.

Her address book includes, of course, not only her friends and fellow grad students, but all of her professors and the chair of her department.

Clearly, this is not the best way to impress your profs, kiddo. :)

Update: Okay, things just got worse for the poor kid. It seems that the virus sent out the ad using all addresses in the addressbook in a cc: list, not bcc, and her dad, who is clueless on all things computer and Internet, clicked “Reply” and replied to everyone in her address book. And what did her professors and friends receive from him? An email saying something like, “Wow… I can’t believe you have that many friends…” She’s now screaming at him on the phone….

Poor child. Perhaps a time-out is in order? ;-)

      What a great idea – I could really use a time-out! :)

Since she seems to be taking an ostrich approach to the problem, has done nothing to find or disinfect the system, and continues to user her computer, I expect that I haven’t heard the last of the problems.

This might be a good day to go to Vancouver….
